Healers Silk Road event
« on: May 26, 2009, 11:26:46 AM »

I'm not sure this is the right subforum for this, but Ghaelen will sort it out. Smiley

During the Healers meeting on Saturday we decided to go ahead with this little project. I have the playlist nearly done. We decided to do this June 13 (Saturday) starting at 1000 so as to accommodate Europeans.

Venue is still to be decided. I had technical problems with the chatroom (slow, unresponsive on the Mac, crashes the PC just as Cyan Chat did) so Tai suggested we do this someplace in Second Life. I had joined SL the day before, and some others already were members, so this seems a good idea. We haven't chosen an exact location, although Tai sent out mail in SL with some suggested locations. I've looked at some of the locations but didn't see one that attracted me.

Still, we should probably start posting some announcements.

I've been hoping to see a discussion about this start here.  And, yes, I do hope we can arrange a venue in Second Life. I'm sorry you didn't find anything appropriate for a venue on my list (not even Dagda's pond with a waterfall?).  Perhaps we can discuss other options and even the possibility of creating a whole new space.  Please contact me when you're in SL again.

I'm embarrassed to say I got distracted Sunday and completely forgot about going into SL to do my homework/orientation.  I'll get there soon!  But the link to your quiet space is much appreciated, Tai, as is the PDF file.  I did look at that & I'm printing it out--very helpful!  Thanks much. Smiley

I looked at Dagda's space. It feels too enclosed to me, and it's darker than I'd like.

What I'd hoped for was greenery, some flowers, perhaps a sort of semi-enclosed area with some sky. Maybe I'm too hooked on Eder Tsogahl.

I looked around a new area from the links. I've forgotten the name. It has grass, and some trees and other interesting things. I ran out of time and couldn't explore fully.

Creating a new space might work, but we'd have to figure out finances. I, personally, don't want to put out a tip jar or ask for donations at Healers events.

Yeah, that's a drawback to living in a cavern.  Wink  Eder D'Uru residents are required to maintain the illusion of the cavern or close off their parcel to the public area.  That's an option: to close off a space from the cavern and open it on the other side to the ocean.  That would give us the freedom to change the textures on the walls to something brighter.

I would like an opportunity to show y'all my personal backyard in the sky that I think can give you some more ideas of what's possible.  (It has grass, trees, wildflowers.)   Unfortunately, I can't provide you with a slurl here as it's private and I'll have to be there to teleport you to it.

I believe there is a recreation on Eder Gira.  I'm sure the skydivers would love to host your events there.  I'm willing to do all I can to make the GoH feel at home in Eder D'Uru, but I also want you to have the best possible venue for an event and if we can't create a space to your specs at ED, that would be an option to consider.

I can arrange for the GoH to have two parcels for two months without charge at Eder D'Uru.  If, after that time, you decide it's not a good fit for the GoH, there's no obligation.  But, hopefully, we can create a unique and fitting space for the GoH in that time, and you'll decide to stay.

Yeah, I was appalled by this practice when I first arrived, too.  But, trust me on this: people who attend and enjoy your event will ask you where the tip jar is.  Everyone understands that the host has to pay for the space and/or music server and they want to contribute to keeping the events going.  All the D'niJs in SL do it; Donahoo does it for her cocktail party, and Dagda & DMom even do it for their book readings.  It's an acceptable practice in Second Life.
Also, keep in mind that churches take donations, too.  We don't have to call it a tip jar(just consider that a technical term); we can call it donations or "love offerings" or whatever you find acceptable and we can make the item anything you like.

I'm also glad to see this discussion.  I went to SL and there were a couple places that I thought would work.  The whole city area is kind of cool.  I also liked Minkata and Eder Gira.  And I like Dagda's waterfall and pond area.  It is very peaceful.

I met up with DudeMom and it was really good seeing everyone.  She took me to another city area.  The building is going on all the time.

LC, there is a Tsogal...  I saw it this evening.  It would actually do pretty well.  And what fun going back and forth to Gira.  (giggle)

As far as the tip jar worry... you can always put it out for the land hosts.  They're very nice to offer any space to our wayward Healers.

Otherwise, maybe you can post about the music and let people gather in the places/chatrooms they normally use.  We can open the public chatroom and just let people come if they wish, like we were talking about doing.

Tai was very kind this evening and took me around to several places.  There are some that would work for the event, LC.  For one of our "outreach" groups, it might be nice to have a place to actually meet "in person" or invite others to come to.  I know the place where I was going (Kaneva) has nice spaces but no other Uruites are there.  So.... let's investigate SL a bit more, maybe?

Besides our forum public chat, does anyone have any other MMO they'd like to suggest?

I think Second Life is the best place for now, because that's where most Explorers landed. If the Healers have a person in There, she could always be the nucleus of a Healers group there. Or we can rotate locations for events.

LC, Jane, Tai, thanks for meeting me in Second Life today to figure out some details.  Tai did indeed get us set up with a space for this month in Eder D'Uru at no charge.  Thanks so much, Tai.  (and I did hear what you said about next month, lol)  That gives us some time to do some building and get the space set up.  How does this name sound?  "Guild of Healers' Outreach Retreat"  It isn't quite a "home" but it is a base from which to work, so that we at least have something to do as a group within the community in some way.  There are indeed a lot of people in Second Life, so we can allow the guild to develop at bit more.

LC, there is a roof we can use for the Healers' sponsored Silk Road Journey.  Tai has offered to decorate and I'm going to stand around and give her ideas.  I heard nature, plants, and we briefly talked about virtual aromatherapy, lol.  Anyone else is welcome to join us.  BTW, they are working on the Tokotah Roof and may have it done by the 20th. Smiley

Also, Jane, I am going to meet with Tai and the builders on Wednesday evening to talk about building and maybe work up the ground a bit (terraform).  I succeeded in moving some large walls around so we can now see the ocean...  Dagda helped me figure out where to put them and how to think about the terraforming for an optimal design.  The one thing I have are lots of textures, so I'm going to take a class in image preparation so I know what the parameters are and what formats work best.  We should have a very nice little oasis.

If anyone is interested in working with the outreach group, we'd love to have more input.  I've kept in mind our ideas about meditations, talk and story circles, small group sessions and lots of greenery, water, and sky.  But of course, the more the merrier!

Post or pm if you are interested in this part of the traveling healers troupe.

Hi ghaelen, LC, Tai, & all.

That was a fun tour this morning--I liked SL much more this time than on previous visits.  They've built some glorious stuff there!  And I think it helped to be in the company of a couple of other relatively clueless people, lol.  (Oops.  Did I say that? whistle )

I like "Guild of Healers' Outreach Retreat" as a name--it describes perfectly what we want to do in SL, I think.  And I'd be happy to help with the decorating (or standing around watching Tai decorate Smiley ) for Silk Road.  I'm also interested in getting my feet wet with the terraforming, ghaelen, though I'm leaving for 5 days in the mountains (yay!) on Wednesday morning, so I can't come to the meeting Wednesday night.  I'll be back Sunday (6/8), & available the following week for building and/or planning.  And didn't Dagda say the beginning building classes start that week?  (Just what I need--more time on the computer!  Roll Eyes )

Healing is a journey...
...from where you are to where you want to be
...from not-so-good to better, by way of confusion
...taken sometimes in confident strides, other times creeping timidly
...that's more enjoyable in understanding company
...requiring care and attention.

The (travelling) Guild of Healers invites you to a metaphorical caravan from mysterious China through desert and mountain, climbing and descending, to the Mediterranean Sea following the interwoven complexities of the Silk Road. We've chosen to meet in Second Life because that's where the people are, but the music can be heard anywhere.

Our caravan departs on June 13 at 1000 Pacific U.S., 1300 Eastern U.S., 1900 Zulu and Central European, and the journey takes 3.5 hours. We welcome other travellers to join us; please contact Tai'lahr or Ghaelen in Second Life to find out exactly where.

The music for this exploration will be presented on Shoutcast, courtesy of Ashtar, at

Where are we going? We're not sure. We do intend to enjoy the trip.

Hey, that is very nice LC!

Is this going to be a post for advertisement?  Would you like some help posting around places?

I would make one recommendation:  maybe leave out the phrase "because that's where the people are."  Yes, that's why we are meeting in Second Life, but there are people in other places, and this makes it sound like Second Life is the only place that is populated.  I know, I know, but I'd rather be picky now than fix offended feelings later.

I will try to get the slurl to the rooftop where we'll all meet (I'm assuming that rooftop is ok with you), and maybe we can add that to the posts.  I don't know yet how to do that, but I am pretty sure some kind person will show me, lol.

Hi, Ghaelen. Smiley

The post above is something I put together as a first cut. Feel free to modify as needed; I've not posted it anywhere else.

I think that's a good point about "...where the people are." Not sure how to say it better. Maybe it needn't be said at all.

When we're happy with the wording, yes, I think I'd like some help in broadband posting. Smiley

I am not sure this is the proper place to post this, but I finally am in SL and I would like to know where do I go from here (DC). The name I am in under Benno Ranimodo (not what I wanted but I guess it will have to do laugh)

Benno! <she says with her best Italian accent>  Is this brother Benno from the Roof parties?

It will be fun to have you there.  Follow this post for information about how to get to the retreat: http://guildofhealers.net/forum/index.php/topic,118.0.html

There's not much at the retreat yet, so if you get to a bare cave with an ocean view you are in the right place.  embarrass  I'm going to meet with Tailahr and some others this evening to begin work on the space.  If you are going in today and you'll let me know when, I will come in so we can get connected.  laugh
