Invitation to a Meet and Greet in the Retreat
« on: June 22, 2009, 04:04:31 PM »

I would like to send out an invitation to the residents of Eder D'uru and the members of our new group, the Healers' Outreach Retreat.  I'm going to be gone most of the day on Saturday, so either Friday evening or Sunday are the days I'm thinking of.  If Friday, we could coordinate with Tai's boxbot course, and if Sunday, we could have a sort of open house from maybe 11am to 2pm SL time?

I will try to figure out how to put out teleport "boxes" on each level, and it would also be a time to talk about a few little business items, mostly times for the meditation sessions and ideas for the Healing Uru meditation event.

If I don't hear any yea's or nay's I will send out an invite on Tuesday evening for Sunday.  It is not a main event, and we'll have more of them.  It is a way for us to show people around, get and make suggestions, talk a bit and of course, engage in wonderful conversations.

fyi:  feel free to invite others you know who aren't in these two groups.  I'm not very good at preparing for or planning large group events, but the more the merrier as far as I'm concerned.  If I keep it "small" in my mind, then I'm not overwhelmed with prep things I suddenly have to do.

Not sure what to say, but I'm sure it will make sense to someone when I finally say it.

Now if I could just meet that person.

Sunday sounds great to me, but keep in mind that the Eder D'Uru guild meetings are always on Sunday at Noon SLT.  (Which could actually help bring people into the meet & greet.)

I'm pretty sure I can come Sunday as well, though I have a dinner date Friday so can't come for planning. Maybe you could catch me up Saturday evening sometime, ghaelen? if you're free then.  Or maybe send me a chatlog from the meeting.  Or--I could just wing it. Smiley

ok, Sunday after the meeting is fine -- maybe two hours is long enough.  Once a couple other people weigh in, I'll send out an invite and also Tai can announce it at the meeting.  Or I can. Smiley

I don't think planning for the meet and greet will take much.  I'd like to schedule about 15 minutes for a meditation beta testing session, but I'll note that in the invite.  Jane, I will try to get back Saturday to talk, otherwise, I'll include as much information here as possible.  The tasks for healers will mainly be to show people around the different levels of the Retreat and invite them to the group if they seem like they would enjoy our events.

Oh, and Jane, be sure to bring your famous brownies!

Update:  I've heard from several folks that Sunday at 1:00 SL time will work (after the Eder D'uru residents meeting).  So I will send out an invite to everyone here (to come to the Retreat in Second Life), to the SL Eder D'uru resident group, and to the new Healers' Outreach Retreat group.  I will see about getting an invite also to the D'ni Refugees group.  Those together will reach probably more people than we can handle, lol.

Here is what I'd like to do for the meet and greet:

1:00-2:00  Greet folks as they come in.  The teleport entrance point is near the dock.  I expect some will also arrive via ferry.

It would be nice if we could coordinate to make sure one person was always at the dock to meet people, invite them in and send them around to the ocean area.

Another person at the ocean area could could point out a few things there, such as the fact that we'll have some of our meditation sessions around the water, let them look at the viewer, and other nice things there.  From there they can climb up to plateau and then to the treehouse, or use the teleport "object" that will take them to the treehouse.

One person could be in the treehouse to talk about that for meditations, talk a bit more, show people the glass house, and point them upward farther to the "pool" on the surface or to a teleport "object" that will take them to the surface. (You can fly up through the pool to the desert on the surface)

I expect Ruby will be putzing about near the cart/house, so she can visit with folks who come up to the surface.  Ruby, how does that sound?

I am certain havoc will ensue as soon as we begin the meet and greet, which will make it all the more fun.

BTW, flying is, of course, encouraged, lol.  The teleport "objects" are mostly for Ruby because flying makes her sick.  But no reason not to leave them there permanently (3 prims at most for all of them, I think)

2:00-2:15pm  I'd like to do a Voice Chat Meditation Beta test.   laugh  What that means is that we ask everyone to enable their voice chat and allow ghaelen to speak a few words to see how well her voice comes through and how far it travels up the different levels.  I have in mind to guide the weekly meditation sessions via voice chat, and since I'm new to SL, a beta test would be most helpful to me.  The distance will help me determine which session to hold on which level, both for variety and for creating the themes for each session.

I plan to talk a little about the healers, the retreat, the weekly meditations and ask folks to talk to a healer if they'd like to be invited into our Outreach Retreat group.  (I think Jane, LC, Tai, and I can invite people.  If you can't, let me know.)  I also plan to mention the upcoming Healing Uru meditation and whatever has been decided at that time.  All of that together should be enough to test my ability to speak and to use the voice chat, lol.

After this, we go back to flying, chatting, dancing, eating, creating more havoc, etc...

LC, of course I'd love you to play music.  But if you can't, I'll just turn on one of the meditation music stations.  If you do play music, and are also comfortable doing so, you can occasionally let folks know how the "traffic flow" is going (say anything you want to about where people are -- or not if you don't want to -- have fun with it).  The music can be anything you want to play until right at 2:00.  Then, I think something quiet would be best, but still something should be playing, since my voice will need to carry over the top of whatever music and/or sounds I play during the meditations.  After the beta test, any kind of music is fine.  (OK, maybe not calliope right away....)

During the beta test, which I expect will last about 10-15 minutes.....  anything Deuter, or even soft myst, Riven, or Uru music.  Anything that sounds like the Nirvana music station would be best, in that it is a bit soothing-to-nearly-boring, and instrumental.  Does that sound OK?

As things wind down, (around 2:45?) we can talk about some logistical things, such as the Healing Uru meditation, scheduling the weekly meditations, and any other "business" anyone wants our collective opinions on.  How does that sound, everyone?

OK... things are becoming a little clearer... I lost track of this one because it's in the Outreach subforum. To suit easily confuzzled people like me, perhaps all planned and suggested activities should go in the Activities subforum... Smiley

Anyway, yes, I can be in on this one. I'll start the Healers leader beforehand and switch to... something... at 1300.

I think I did just as well.... I moved the Retreat Meditations to this subforum because they are specific to Second Life at present.  I'll also modify the forum titles to better reflect what activities go in what forum.

Great!  We can talk more Friday or on Saturday when I get home.
