GoH-sponsored series of events: JoyRides
« on: August 29, 2009, 02:58:49 PM »

I sent out a proposal to the GoH group about the Ferry Ride for Joy that could easily become a series of Rides for Joy.  I'll paste it here for those of you not in SL much.

"Shorah, Healers!

I would like to propose a series of Healer-Sponsored events that could take place around different Uru Sims.

The Series itself is called GoH Joyrides, and each event would be a ** Ride for Joy.  Joyride means fun, Ride for Joy adds a little Healing to that fun.

The first event would start in the GoH Retreat at Eder D'uru, and would be called The Ferry Ride for Joy.  The purpose is simple:  We ride the ferry around the city, stop at each landing, wish the resident or shoppe owner well, (give them Indigo's famous brownies and other feel-good things) then hop back on the Ferry "en masse" (in a mass of avies) to proceed to the next stop.  At the end we make our way to the Tokotah Roof for an Up-on-the-Roof partahy.
-- That's not all there is to it, of course, since we will have avies overboard, singing, rocking-of-the-boat and numerous other types of Serious Nonsense along the way....
--Music will be provided by the Healers' own D'niJ Ktadhn, unless he tells me otherwise, lol.  It may well have a ferry, city, Uru, and cavern-ish theme.  Oh yes, and be full of fun and healing.

If possible, I'd like to have this first event of the series around the Autumn Equinox (September 21st) to kick-off the Fall Season.  Then, each susequent event would take place each month.

The second event might be at Devokan, since I know there is a ship/boat/airship there.  It might be The Ship ride for Joy?  The premise is the same -- to wish folks well, join their adventures, sing, laugh, and have fun.

That's as far as I've gotten with the idea.  I would love to have many places to joyride and many voices contributing ideas of other things to do while we try to maintain our balance on the waters of emotion (wink).

Soooo, to that end, I'd like to invite interested organizing persons to IM me, as I suspect we'd need to have a (cough) part... er, gather... er, "meeting" of some sort to brainstorm ideas and to set the Joyrides in motion.

(Music and refreshments provided for all organizational meetings)

Shorah Beshemte,
ghaelen"

I hope the organizashine-all commit-tea will post regular updates here. We shall sea what becomes of the lot of us by then.  laugh

Sounds good to me. Is Harmonic Hilariy, Inc, involved? Smiley

Today it's to hot to run the PC.

Hmmm.  We were having some personnel shortages in the Hilarity division for a bit, there--have we resolved those, LC?  If so, this seems like an event for which HHI might well provide services.  I'll see who I can round up--unless Convector would like to do that?  It's his department, but I'm not sure how everyone feels about getting him involved again.

You know, it is highly likely that Hilarity would be involved in a "joyride" situation.  Harmonics, of course, are Ktahdn's spesh-i-a-lity!

BTW, any preferences for a date?  The 21st is on a Tuesday, so either the Sunday before or the Sunday after would be rather nice.

Oh yes, fyi.  The Healers' & Harmonic Hilaritys' Collaborative JoyRide Consortium is booked to descend on (or into) Devokan in October.  In November, I believe it is one of Aderyn's locations (need to get the details on that)

I guess we'd best get busy....   crazy scare

Ghaelen, either Sunday would be OK with me.

Jane, Convector, after the roasting he got after his last appearance, has been keeping his head down. He's around somewhere... Smiley

Collaborators, all aboard!
I'll leave the HHI internal affairs committee to make HHI internal decisions. tease  For my part, I think September 27 would be a nice day to welcome the beginning of Fall.

Update on the Eder D'uru Ferry Ride for Joy, Sunday, September 27

Event Sub-events:
GoH weekly meditation session, 11:00am SL time -- meditation on laughter (positive emotions)
After-laughter gathering during ED guild meeting. (??)

D'niJ Ktahdn, please let us know if this date and time do not work for you:

Begin assembling in the GoH Outreach Retreat at 1:30pm SL time (Pacific)
Ferry Ride 2-4pm; Up on the Roof party til 6pm. ??
Collaboration between GoH and Radio KTDN

Up on the Roof! Party courtesy of Radio KTDN and voluntarily hosted by the GoH healing hosts and hosteses.

Itinerary:
2pm, begin ferry ride -- complete circuit once (takes less than five minutes), sing and cause havoc, then pass by the Retreat, picking up any latecomers.  Then on to the first well-wishing stop!

Stop at each dock, run amock, explore their place (if they permit this) leave them something nice (if they permit this), wish residents well, pile into the ferry(s) and on to the next dock.  We expect the entire circuit to take 1.5-2 hours.  If it ends sooner we'll just go on up to the partay on the Roof.

At the end, riders can either use the sunshine/rainbow portal from the retreat to the Tokotah Roof, or ride the ferry again to the city terminal, where they catch the city ferry to the city landing.  They then use another portal to get to the Takotah Roof.  There seems to be no stairs or elevator up to the Roof as of yet. Smiley

Each participant/resident with a key/puzzle piece/we don't know what yet brings it to the Roof to assemble the Sun/object/we don't know what yet.  While it may not be completed that night, we can get well on our way.  Or.... we can give people who are there the key/etc., so the object can, in fact be completed.  Opinions on this are welcome.

There are a few things that we need:
Ideas for decorating the Roof
Captains for the ferry(s)to pick up people, drop them off, and rescue them when overboard.
Ideas for the look of the portals
Vinnie (if possible) and pizza on the roof!
Numerous and unceasing puns about ferrys, docks, landing, travel, and so on.
The Rotties?
Copious Quantities of Murph-Oph and De-Stress
A videographer???
Eyes on the invitation and explanation so it is easy to follow.
Invite your friends (and even your not-friends, for all will end up in the lake anyway)

Sunday, Sept 13.
Tai, Marten, and ghaelen met at the Retreat to discuss details.  Jane was out of sim, and although we spotted Ktahdn briefly, he was unable to stay. (darn)

Ideas batted about:
Captaining the ferry(s).  We need to figure out how multiple ferries act when all try to stop at the same dock.  The first group would have to wait for the last group to arrive before well-wishing.  Hence, the running amock while waiting.

Need to inform residents of the event and invite them to be at their parcels if they aren't on a ferry themselves.  The GoH Joyriders will have asked for permission before giving the resident an item to help them feel better (like Joy itself).  This item will be dropped on the dock or just inside the parcel.  This is something nice that will correspond with something else nice being built Up on the Roof.

Need charge-takers to watch out for latecomers, laggers, and others who get lost.  I would like to put together a group chat, but can't quite figure out how to do that impromptu and keep it up to date.  Voice chat is not really an option, as it causes major lag when in motion.

Ideas and opinions are welcome!  laugh

Great ideas, Ghaelen.  A few answers to your questions and an update on what Marten and I have done:

We need to figure out how multiple ferries act when all try to stop at the same dock.
If a ferry is directly in front of another one, it will move forward when the latter one moves.  So, as each ferry arrives, the others will be pushed to the next stop.  We'll just have to call them back.

If you mean a conference chat, yes, they are difficult to manage in a case like this.  I would suggest using the GoH or Eder D'Uru group to chat.  I would think that most of the people attending would already belong to one of those groups or be interested in joining.  If not, they can leave the group after the event.

Marten has made a lovely sun with multiple rays and a spiral center.  And, he got a script from Nadnerb last night that I think he'll be able to make work for this.  Perhaps we could simply use a smaller version of this sun to leave at the resident parcels which could dispense the rays.

As for me, I have created a large smiley face for people to wear on their head.   laugh  Actually, it will start off invisible and only appear whenever someone says the word "joy."  Just imagine a boat full of nice looking avies, floating along, then someone says "joy" and suddenly they are all sporting large smiley face heads.   laugh

While Marten and I were brainstorming about what kind of items could represent "joy," he said "dishwashing liquid"  laugh  and so...  I have made a Joy Dishwashing Liquid bottle "gun" which shoots soap bubbles.   laugh

I am also working on a rainbow portal teleporter... we'll see how that works out.

Oh, don't forget to mention "dress brightly" or something along those lines in the invitation.   Wink

Preparations for the Ferry Ride for Joy are well underway!

We do still need volunteers to captain the ferry.  Doesn't require any experience, although a sense of humor is a plus.  whistle

You are invited to wear bright and colorful clothing!  We'd love to see a rainbow of participants!

There have been some minor "alterations" so here are the particulars and an itinerary of sorts.

Festivities to begin at 11:00am SL time:
Meet at GoH Outreach Retreat in Eder D'uru
(slurl coming)
JoyRide Music by GoH Member D'niJ Ktahdn

After Party Up on the Roof! at Eder D'uru Takotah Rooftop
Music by Radio KTDN
Food & Refreshments will be served.

Itinerary:

11:00am SL Time (Pacific)
Meet & Mingle at the GoH Outreach Retreat
(Pick up party favors, test the Ferry for roominess, run amock, chat a bit)

11:15-11:30
Make our way to the dock, pile in the Ferry(s) and begin the Ride for Joy circuit.
**I will try to introduce each resident once the group has assembled.  If they would like they might say a few words about their parcel.  We then embark on a round of well wishing and explore the parcel a little as we offer gifts and hopes of health, wealth, and happiness.**

1:00pm (13:00) SL Time
End the Ride for Joy back at the GoH Retreat, and either take the Rainbow portal system to the roof or ferry back over to the city terminal to race up the stairs.  The last distance to the Roof will require one rainbow portal, but it is quite visible from the courtyard.

Up on the Roof! Party til....  clown   ?

Till our D'niJ falls over?   laugh

Just a quick Thank You to everyone who came to the Ride for Joy and to those who helped make it such a success!

Chaos did indeed rule the day.  As expected, just getting to the next stop was a journey of hilarity itself.  But everyone had a great time.  Residents who joined us showed off their gorgeous spaces, and happy-faced well-wishers swarmed through spreading bubbly cheer.  The party favors and decorations by Tai'lahr and Marten were awesomely fun, and the Radio Ktahdn music was perfect. as always.

The ferry?  We think we broke it.  Sorry Nadnerb.  Wink

Thanks everyone!
